BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT · London, OR · 5 days ago
FinanceFull-time
About the role
The Senior FP&A Analyst is a strategic finance role created to transform how BCS uses financial data to provide insight and drive executive decision-making. The role moves the organization beyond traditional management reporting, surfacing proactive, forward-looking financial and business intelligence that supports the CEO, Executive Team and Senior Leadership in steering the organization.
Responsibilities
- Act as a proactive strategic finance partner to the CEO, CFO and Executive Team, anticipating information needs and surfacing meaningful business insight rather than reacting to ad-hoc reporting requests.
- Interpret financial performance data and present trends, patterns and insights in business context, producing executive-ready analysis, commentary and presentation material that directly supports decision-making.
- Lead on revenue analysis and revenue forecasting, driving improvements in forecasting accuracy across revenue streams and deepening the organization’s understanding of the drivers behind performance.
- Produce advanced P&L analysis, management accounting insight, and commercial performance reporting that goes beyond statutory and management accounts to create financial and business intelligence.
- Combine financial data with operational, membership, commercial and other relevant data sets to create joined-up insight that illuminates organizational performance and opportunity.
- Develop and maintain business intelligence dashboards, models and reporting mechanisms that provide the Executive Team with timely, relevant and actionable information.
- Apply predictive analytics to monitor, report, spot and forecast trends and patterns — turning financial data into short, medium and long-term forward-looking insight.
- Build and refine financial models to support scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, investment appraisal and strategic decision-making.
- Partner with colleagues across the organization to understand performance drivers, challenge assumptions constructively, and improve the quality of financial and commercial decision-making.
- Translate complex financial information into clear, compelling narrative for non-finance audiences at Executive, Senior Leadership and governance levels, including Committees and Council where required.
- Identify opportunities to improve the financial management mix, reporting processes, data flows and tooling, working closely with the CFO on continuous improvement.
- Support the annual budget and re-forecast cycles with analytical rigour, providing challenge, insight and forward-looking perspective.
- Represent Finance in cross-functional initiatives requiring financial analysis, modelling or intelligence input.
Requirements
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), or equivalent by experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or a related discipline.
- Further qualification or certification in data analytics, business intelligence or financial modelling (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, CFA, FMVA, or similar) is advantageous.
- Proven experience in a senior finance business partnering, FP&A, commercial finance or equivalent role, with a clear track record of delivering forward-looking financial and business intelligence to executive audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to combine financial and non-financial data sets to generate commercial insight and influence decision-making.
- Strong experience of revenue analysis, forecasting, and improving forecasting accuracy across complex or multi-stream income models.
- Experience of building and maintaining advanced financial models, dashboards and executive reporting packs.
- Track record of working directly with, and influencing, senior leaders including C-suite or executive-level stakeholders.
- Experience within a membership organization, professional body, charity or not-for-profit environment is highly desirable but not essential; equally, commercially-experienced candidates attracted to a purpose-led organization are welcomed.
Qualifications
- Commercial Acumen: deep understanding of the commercial and financial drivers of organizational performance, and the ability to connect financial results to business strategy and operations.
- Analytical Rigour: strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interrogate data, identify patterns, and draw defensible conclusions.
- Financial Storytelling: exceptional ability to translate complex financial information into clear, compelling narrative for non-finance audiences, with strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Advanced Modelling: expert-level Excel including Power Query, Power Pivot, dynamic modeling, scenario and sensitivity analysis.
- Business Intelligence Tooling: strong working knowledge of Power BI (or equivalent such as Tableau), including dashboard design principles. SQL or similar data-querying capability is desirable.
- Forecasting and Predictive Analytics: confident application of forecasting methods, trend analysis and basic predictive techniques to produce actionable short, medium and long-term intelligence.
- Executive Presence: the gravitas, confidence and judgement to engage credibly with the CEO, Executive Team and senior stakeholders, including the ability to constructively challenge.
- Proactivity and Curiosity: a self-starting mindset with the instinct to anticipate information needs and surface insight without waiting to be asked.
- Collaboration: strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships across Finance and the wider organization.
- Deep understanding of the financial management mix, including the distinctions between management accounts, statutory accounts, P&L, cash flow, and other forms of business performance reporting.
- Strong grasp of financial planning and analysis disciplines including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and scenario planning.
- Understanding of how to turn traditional accounting outputs into financial and business intelligence that drives decisions.
- Familiarity with the financial characteristics of membership, professional body or charity sector organizations (including restricted funds, charitable reporting considerations, and diverse income models) is desirable.
- Awareness of current trends in finance transformation, FP&A tooling, data analytics and business intelligence.
