UXO Technician III

Amentum is seeking a UXO Technician III for North of Las Vegas, Nevada.

About the Role

Provide technical oversight, support, and standards for UXO and support personnel conducting range clearance operations, including unexploded ordnance (UXO)-related operations. Tasks include ordnance response projects, reconnaissance, classification, disposal, transport, and storage of UXO in compliance with Federal, state, and local laws.

Responsibilities

• Investigate for and identify Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) and Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH), including explosive residues in media (soil, oil, etc.), on ranges, targets, target elements, buildings, and installed equipment.
• Identify different types of military munitions, including determining whether a munition’s fuse is armed or unarmed.
• Perform on-site demilitarization of MEC and handle demolition materials.
• Inspect munitions, munitions components, and targets for explosive hazards.
• Supervise personnel assisting in range clearances to ensure hazardous items are not inadvertently moved or removed.
• Inspect MPPEH in accordance with DoDI 4140.62 to identify and remove Munitions Debris with Explosive Hazards (MDEH) before declaring it Munitions Debris as Safe (MDAS).
• Ensure compliance with DoD Military Service- and/or DDESB-approved site plans.
• Supervise and perform on-site destruction or demilitarization of MEC in place or at a consolidated detonation site, including determining safe initiation of destruction and engineering controls to mitigate detonation effects.
• Prepare explosives storage plans per applicable guidance.
• Prepare required UXO munitions response actions and/or range maintenance administrative reports.
• Develop standard operating procedures for on-site munitions responses and range clearance activities.
• Assist in the preparation of risk and hazards analyses.
• Conduct daily site safety briefings.
• Supervise all on-site UXO-related operations.
• Inspect, certify, and/or verify MPPEH as safe or identify the explosive hazard it may present for transfer within the Department of Defense or release from DoD control per current policies and standards.
• Perform all functions of UXO Senior Project Manager (UXOSP), UXO Technician I (UXOTI), and UXO Technician II (UXOTII).
• Conduct risk-hazard analysis, maintenance, and operator checks on all team equipment.
• Assist in reconnaissance and classification of UXO, including identification of U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs, bomb fuses, grenades, grenade fuses, rockets, rocket fuses, land mines, and associated components.
• Locate subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers and direct operator maintenance of such equipment.
• Locate surface UXO using visual means and assist in transporting and storing UXO.
• Responsible for demolition of materials, preparing non-electric and electric firing systems for UXO disposal operations, and disposing of ammunition/explosives by burning.
• Assist in operating personnel decontamination stations.
• Inspect salvage UXO-related material and erect UXO-related protective works.
• Provide additional operational mission, test, and exercise support as required.
• Provide instructions or work direction to lower-level technicians.
• Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 8 years of EOD/UXO experience.
• Prior military EOD and/or commercial UXO experience in munitions response actions or range clearance activities, plus specific project/explosives safety training.
• Graduate of U.S. Naval School EOD and meet the requirements of the DoD Explosive Safety Board (Technical Paper-18).
• Completed 200 hours of training on MEC and MPPEH.
• Graduate of an OSHA-compliant (29 CFR 1910.120) 40-hour HAZWOPER course.
• Graduate of an OSHA-compliant (29 CFR 1910.120(e)(4)) 8-hour Management and Supervisor Training course.
• Completed a 10-hour OSHA Construction Safety and Health Training and earned a Department of Labor Construction Safety Course Completion Card.
• Knowledge of explosives safety, recognition of munitions and MEC (particularly UXO), and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Computer literacy in common software applications and ability to operate general office equipment.
• Success in a leadership position with demonstrated ability to lead groups of multi-skilled personnel.
• Ability to operate a forklift or material handling lifting devices.
• Experience working in procedurally, environmentally, and safety-compliant environments.
• Unexploded ordnance experience desired.
• Valid state-issued motor vehicle driver’s license.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) endorsement.
• Ability to qualify for and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

Work Environment

• Works in proximity to toxic chemical munitions; may enter areas containing toxic chemicals or chemical munitions.
• Involves standing for long periods; may lift up to 50 pounds.
• May require work in high temperatures, dusty, or confined areas, and use of protective equipment.
• Frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Required to work a rotating schedule of eight, ten (normally), or twelve-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Must acknowledge and respond to emergency lights and sirens and be capable of wearing a protective mask.

Pay

$55.65 per hour.
