UXO Technician III

We are seeking a UXO Technician III to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada, supporting operations at the Hawthorne Army Depot. This role involves on-site demilitarization of Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC). U.S. citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties of a UXO Technician III as outlined in the current version of DDESB TP-18.
• Conduct on-site demilitarization of MEC and handle demolition materials.
• Prepare explosives storage plans in accordance with applicable guidance.
• Prepare required UXO munitions response actions and/or range maintenance administrative reports.
• Develop standard operating procedures for on-site munitions responses and range clearance activities.
• Assist in the preparation of risk and hazards analysis.
• Conduct daily site safety briefings.
• Supervise all on-site UXO-related operations.
• Inspect, certify, and/or verify Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) as safe or assess the explosive hazard for transfer within the Department of Defense or release from DoD control per current policies and standards.
• Perform all UXO Senior Project Manager (UXOSP), UXO Technician I (UXOTI), and UXO Technician II (UXOTII) functions.
• Conduct risk-hazard analysis, maintenance, and operator checks on all team equipment.
• Assist in reconnaissance and classification of UXO, including identification of U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs, bomb fuses, grenades, grenade fuses, rockets, rocket fuses, land mines, and associated components.
• Locate subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers and direct operator maintenance of this equipment.
• Locate surface UXO using visual means and assist in transporting and storing UXO.
• Responsible for demolition of materials, preparing non-electric and electric firing systems for UXO disposal operations, and disposing of ammunition/explosives by burning.
• Assist in operating personnel decontamination stations and inspecting salvage UXO-related material.
• Erect UXO-related protective works.
• Transfer munitions from munitions service magazine to Enhanced Reconfiguration Building feed area.
• Provide support labor for palletizing, packaging, and shipping of munitions bodies and inert/energetic parts.
• Perform project coordination duties, providing technical expertise relevant to munitions demilitarization and storage problems.
• Maintain records, compliance documents, and draft, review, finalize, and submit project status reports.
• Complete all accountability and historical documentation in a timely manner.
• Advise managers and supervisors of potential problems and provide input for official reports and inspections.
• Ensure compliance with company, safety, government, and environmental guidelines and regulations.

Requirements

• Graduate of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) or qualified Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) school with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in military EOD and/or commercial UXO operations.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must meet requirements for the UXO Technician III level as provided in DDESB TP-18.
• Completed 200 hours of training on MEC and MPPEH.
• 40 hours of Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance and a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (U.S. citizenship required).
• Effective and professional communication skills in English using all standard forms of business communication.
• Sufficient computer hardware and software proficiency to perform all job duties effectively.
• Ability to obtain and maintain all certificates required by Amentum’s Master Training Plan.
• Strong time and project management skills, including project prioritization and multitasking abilities.
• Strong collaboration and team-building skills; ability to provide clear objectives, motivate, establish metrics/goals, and monitor progress.
• Computer literate at the intermediate and/or advanced user level in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
• Willingness to work overtime and wear various levels of personal protective equipment.
• Knowledge or proficiency in all accountability tasks.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record (MVR) check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD) site access (U.S. citizenship required).

This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix and the HWAD Alcohol and Drug (A&D) Program. Candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam, and respiratory screening, and meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13, and DOD Contractors Safety Manual 4145.26.

Pay

$48.19 per hour
