UX Designer

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we deliver health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services. We have five regional centres: Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centre. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested.

About the role

The UX Designer is responsible for researching, designing, and implementing all user experiences when interacting with a digital product or tool. To ensure the end user experience is improved, the post holder will engage with key stakeholders to better understand their needs and goals, conduct usability and accessibility testing, design user flows and prototypes. You will also be responsible for creating and supporting continuous user experience improvement across NHS 24.

Responsibilities

• Design wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mock-ups that effectively communicate design concepts and interactions.
• Work in collaboration with the IT Test Team to create, maintain and report on project exception logs which reflect the exceptions discovered during testing.
• Impact analysis to identify the impacts upon people, processes, and technology that a proposed solution and/or decision may have, including financial impact.
• Assess and report on highly complex technical information and situations requiring analysis, interpretation, and comparison of a range of options in order to ensure NHS 24 Technology proposals and solutions offer the best match to organisational need.
• Interpret national legislation, such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0), to ensure that NHS 24’s ICT & Digital deliverables are compliant and meet the required standards.

Requirements

• Educated to SCQF Level 9 in UX Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction or a related discipline, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Experienced in conducting user research, including user interviews, surveys, and usability testing.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present and justify design decisions.
• Proven experience as a UX Designer, with a portfolio showcasing a range of design projects and solutions.

• Permanent contract on Band 6: £43,321 - £52,679 per annum (pro rata if applicable). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
