Utility Worker - Wastewater Collections

Hiring Range: $22.34 to $27.93 per hour (Full Pay Range: $22.34 to $33.51 per hour). FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.

About the Role

The City of Prescott Department of Public Works is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and collaborative professional for the City's Wastewater Collections team. Under general supervision of the Wastewater Collection Supervisor(s), the ideal candidate will perform daily operations and maintenance tasks to support team goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair the sanitary sewer collection system to ensure safe and efficient operation; inspect sewer lines, manholes, and lift stations.
• Operate a variety of complex sewer line cleaning equipment, including hydro-cleaners and other related equipment to remove debris from sewer lines and wet wells.
• Utilize hand tools, jack hammers, whackers, digging bars, shovels, and other related tools or equipment as required.
• Inspect sewer line cleaning equipment, power tools, hand tools, vehicles, and other large equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Perform confined space entries.
• Provide quality customer service to address citizen complaints or problems, provide requested information, and/or take appropriate measures to ensure expedient resolution of citizen satisfaction.
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience comparable to one year of full-time journey-level construction, maintenance, or equipment operation; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.
• Must possess a valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
• Must possess an Arizona Grade I Wastewater Collection System Operator certification or obtain within one (1) year of hire.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Sufficient physical ability to perform required duties and safely operate equipment and city vehicles.
• Ability to see clearly, with correction if necessary, during both day and night, and in potentially adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, capable of lifting 51 pounds frequently without assistance and a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance.
• Sufficient ability to communicate in person clearly, concisely, and effectively, over the radio, and by telephone.
