Utility Warehouse Worker

Schedule

Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; however, this schedule may be adjusted based on the needs of the Department and Supervisor. Extended hours may be required. The position requires compliance with a flexible work schedule as established by the supervisor or management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the operations of the warehouse, including gathering specifications for stock items, preparing and maintaining pricing agreements, and reviewing bids for accuracy.
  • Maintains compliance with purchase orders, pricing agreements, procurement codes, contracts, or ordinances; coordinates internal auditing requirements.
  • Reviews deliveries, expedites orders, and establishes schedules and systems for shipping and receiving.
  • Prepares reports and records; reviews and maintains procedures.
  • Maintains the commodity listing of warehouse inventory, reviews inventory for discrepancies, monitors inventory flow, and conducts spot checks of quantities.
  • Administers perpetual and periodic inventory; analyzes past history and recommends action regarding obsolete and/or excess inventory items.
  • Communicates with vendors, buyers, and Village departments regarding changes, additions, deletions, and quantities of stock items; resolves issues with vendors.
  • Issues parts and materials to work crews for the repair of water and sewer systems; orders materials and parts, and consults with utility work crews to resolve supply order problems.
  • Coordinates orders with the Village Purchasing Office, vendors, and user departments; records all supply movements.
  • Reviews bids or abstracts and makes recommendations on specifications for warehouse inventory items.
  • Stocks and organizes inventory; performs shipping and receiving of parts and supplies; inspects and arranges stock; inputs material requisitions.
  • Participates in conducting and ensuring accountability of year-end inventories; conducts spot-check inventories and resolves discrepancies.
  • Maintains order and safety of the physical warehouse and outside yard.
  • Picks up materials from vendors and makes deliveries to work crews at job sites.
  • Performs clerical support duties, including typing, filing, copying, answering telephone calls, data entry, and assisting the Utility Manager with day-to-day workload.
  • Keeps an adequate supply of stock items and maintains a spreadsheet of supplies inventory for warehouse consumable products.
  • Coordinates with departments in the disposition of surplus property on the online auction site.
  • Checks documents for accuracy and completeness; organizes work, sets priorities, and meets deadlines.
  • Maintains confidentiality of customers, co-workers, management, and other employees.
  • Notifies the Utility Manager of any real or perceived problems related to the department.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with customers, staff, vendors, and monitors/auditors.
  • Installs and removes meters; communicates in person, in writing, and using two-way radios.
  • Advises customers of readings indicating possible leaks or faulty plumbing fixtures.
  • Assists water/sewer crews when needed; tracks water and sewer audits.
  • Cleans flooded or buried meter cans; performs pre-trip vehicle inspections and maintains assigned vehicles.
  • Establishes and maintains routine working relationships with citizens and employees; completes personal time records accurately and timely.
  • Ensures any on-the-job injury is reported immediately and followed up with appropriate forms.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and workshops as required or necessary.
  • Works in confined areas; maintains physical warehouse and assigned vehicle.
  • Accepts delivery of goods; writes and completes work orders for maintenance problems or customer service requests; keeps a log of daily activities.

Requirements

  • Must maintain a high level of computer abilities and keep up with changing technology.
  • Coordinates assigned activities with other departments, agencies, and organizations.
  • Completes and verifies personal timesheet is prepared accurately and timely; ensures time is reported based on actual time worked.
  • Adheres to all Village of Ruidoso’s policies, including IT and Personnel Manual.
  • Reports any suspected fraud and/or abuse to the Utility Manager.
  • Ensures any reports of harassment are immediately reported for appropriate action.
  • Performs well in both proactive and reactive mindsets.

Qualifications

  • High School Education or equivalent required.
  • Prefer 1-year experience in warehouse operations.
  • Adept at working under pressure with frequent interruptions and ability to change focus immediately.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to change in the workplace.
  • Must be detail-oriented, highly motivated, organized, and a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated ability in personal computer operations within a Windows Microsoft environment, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent customer service skills; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public.
  • Must be able to pass regular criminal history checks.
  • Must be willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with Village “Drug-Free” Policy.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico motor vehicle operator’s permit of appropriate classification and endorsement as required.
  • Must agree to maintain a satisfactory MVR and minimum requirement of insurability as required by law; MVR background checks will be conducted by the Village.
  • Must be certified or willing to obtain certification to operate a forklift.

  • Become familiar with meter reading schedules, billing, and customer service policies.
  • Maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to assigned duties, which may include sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
  • Work in a stressful environment and deal effectively with stress.
  • Drive in inclement weather conditions.
  • Skill in motorized equipment and personal computer/software use.
  • Manage a warehouse facility, including maintaining adequate inventory.
  • Perform routine mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculation of percentages.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, controls, or computer/office equipment.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional squatting or bending required.
  • Large percentage of the job may require driving and walking.

Work Environment

  • Works within an internal warehouse environment with exposure to dust and mechanical hazards; occasional exposure to fumes and odors.
  • Protective clothing includes steel toe boots, safety lift belt, safety helmet, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Light physical work involving bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching above shoulder height; moving items weighing up to 50 pounds; repetitive hand movement in the use of a personal computer.
  • Position works inside a warehouse environment with constant exposure to dust and occasional exposure to fumes and odors.
  • Frequent balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching above shoulder height; occasional squatting and kneeling.
  • Substantial communication via telephone is required.
  • Ability to adapt to inclement weather conditions and/or situations; may be called after hours when needed.
  • Noise level could be moderate to loud in the work environment.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and moving mechanical parts/machinery on project sites.
  • May be on stand-by or call-back as needed.

Travel Requirements

Limited travel – ability to travel for activities such as classes and workshops in and out of the service area. Overnight travel as required.
