About the Role

Assists Lift Station Operator with maintenance and compliance of wastewater treatment plant operations to meet City and TECQ regulations. Performs preventative maintenance and cleaning of lift stations, equipment, machinery, sewer access points, lateral lines, and drain lines.

Responsibilities

  • Helps maintain plants to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Cleans and performs preventative maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Inspects and maintains lift stations and pumps.
  • Repairs and installs valves, plugs, pipes, lateral/drain lines, and sewer manhole rings and covers.
  • Prepares and completes concrete work; conducts traffic control.
  • Serves on-call for equipment-related emergencies.
  • Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of chemicals and materials used in wastewater treatment.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment, such as a sledgehammer or cutter.
  • Knowledge of plant equipment and operations.
  • Skill in mechanical operations.
  • Skill in organization and time management.
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.

Qualifications

  • At least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
  • Occasional outside work.
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Work environments include:
    • Seldom: Office or similar indoor environment, warehouse environment.
    • Sometimes: Confined space.
    • Frequently: Vehicles.
    • Often: Outdoor environment, street environment (near moving traffic), construction site.
  • Exposures include:
    • Never: Individuals who are hostile or irate, individuals with known violent backgrounds.
    • Sometimes: Extreme cold (below 32 degrees), toxic or caustic chemicals or substances.
    • Frequently: Extreme heat (above 100 degrees), communicable diseases, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, loud noises (85+ decibels such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, construction).
  • Travel:
    • Never: National travel, international travel.
    • Seldom: Local travel, regional travel.
