Responsibilities

• Performs specialized maintenance work in an assigned section of the Public Utilities Department.
• Performs various tasks involving water utilities maintenance projects; performs preventive maintenance on equipment; assembles and repairs backflow devices; conducts cross-connection control inspections of customers; repairs or replaces sustaining, regulation, and pressure reducing valves.
• Responds to after-hours emergency calls when scheduled for on-call duty; determines needed manpower, equipment, parts, and materials; determines need to request location of utility services.
• Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, which may include a utility truck/vehicle and trailer.
• Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools operable.
• Maintains a current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, methods, and procedures; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED*
• One (1) Year Of Related Experience Preferred.
• Fingerprinting required.

Qualifications

• Must complete the Sacramento Water Distribution Operator correspondence course within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess Backflow Prevention Testing & Assembly certification within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess a valid Class 3 Water Distribution System Operator License within 18 months of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.

Skills

• Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, methods, and procedures.
• Ability to operate a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects.
• Ability to perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Ability to maintain a current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, methods, and procedures.
