Utility-Scale Solar Development Consultant

About the Role

Kelly Engineering is partnering with a leading renewable energy client to seek an experienced Utility-Scale Solar Development Consultant. This remote contract opportunity supports pre-construction and engineering phases for a major utility-scale solar project, collaborating closely with owners, EPC contractors, engineering partners, and equipment suppliers. Candidates with 5–10 years of utility-scale solar experience who excel at technical review, vendor coordination, and project documentation are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight during development and pre-construction for utility-scale solar projects.
  • Review geotechnical reports and engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements; identify risks and concerns.
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors, engineering consultants, and stakeholders to ensure timely completion of milestones.
  • Review and evaluate utility-scale solar equipment, including PV modules and inverter options, making recommendations based on technical and commercial considerations.
  • Assist with panel sourcing discussions, including evaluation of domestic and non-domestic suppliers.
  • Support vendor qualification and review processes, coordinating with equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Review site layouts, design packages, and engineering documents to ensure consistency with project objectives.
  • Provide technical input for estimating, budgeting, and project planning activities.
  • Participate in virtual meetings and follow up with vendors and project partners to maintain project momentum.
  • Identify project risks, technical issues, and opportunities for improvement, communicating recommendations to the project team.

Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years of experience supporting utility-scale solar projects.
  • Strong understanding of utility-scale solar development, engineering, and EPC execution.
  • Experience reviewing geotechnical reports and civil engineering documents.
  • Knowledgeable in PV systems, module technologies, inverter selection, and racking systems.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors, engineering consultants, and equipment suppliers.
  • Familiarity with estimating, project coordination, and pre-construction activities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders in a remote environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, or a related technical discipline preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience representing an owner or developer during utility-scale solar project development.
  • Experience evaluating major equipment vendors and supporting procurement decisions.
  • Familiarity with domestic content requirements and utility-scale procurement strategies.
