Utility Pipelayer Laborer

About the role

The Utility Pipe Layer position at Walbec Group is responsible for installing, aligning, and inspecting underground utilities such as water mains, sewer lines, storm drains, and other piping systems. This role involves working as part of a construction crew to prepare trenches, lay pipe to grade, and ensure proper connections that meet safety and project specifications.

Responsibilities

• Install, align, and inspect underground utilities
• Prepare trenches and lay pipe to grade
• Ensure proper connections that meet safety and project specifications
• Lift up to 75 pounds
• Assist with maintaining machines and equipment
• Aid in cleaning up job site
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or other management

Requirements

• Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
• Class A CDL strongly desired
• High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred
• Punctual and dependable
• Able to work varied hours including nights, early mornings, and weekends as needed
• Tolerate and work in variable weather conditions and dirty/dusty environments
• Member of a Local Laborer Union, or willing to become a union member

Qualifications

• 3-5 years road construction laborer experience preferred
• Minimum 6 months experience in assembling and installing sanitary sewer pipe and manholes, water main, and storm sewer pipe and manholes
• Knowledge of confined spaces, OSHA trenching and sloping preferred
• Able to lift 75 pounds

• Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects
• Attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of construction equipment and tools
