Position Summary
The Utility Operator plays a vital role in overall plant operations, providing support in equipment operation, clay handling, shipping, and screener room maintenance. This position ensures smooth workflow by assisting with production processes, material movement, and general facility upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate material handling equipment: Loader, skid steer, and forklift.
- Clean slurry filters, nozzles, fluidizer walls, etc., to maintain product quality, production rate, and generally clean work areas.
- Actively inspect all areas of plant facility for safety and regulatory concerns/compliance.
- Responsible for plant clean-up, bagging, and shipping of finished product.
- Assist with plant production processes to optimize plant efficiency.
- Perform other related tasks when necessary.
Required Education, Experience, And Qualifications
- Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts including nights & weekends if the need arises.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior experience working in an industrial plant setting.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work in all types of weather elements hot, cold, wet, dry and dusty (both indoors and outdoors).
- Work in temperatures in excess of 100 degrees.
- Safely climb stairs and ladders and frequently get on and off of mobile equipment.
- Work in confined spaces.
- Work with chemicals.
- Good hand to eye coordination.
Working Conditions
- Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
- Prolonged periods of sitting on a forklift or other warehouse equipment.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed.
- Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
- Must be able to move and lift to 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.
- Able to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
- Able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
