Utility Operator (Asphalt Plant)

Responsibilities
The primary function of this role is to operate the plant efficiently and effectively to maximize production while maintaining a safe work environment. This includes operating the loader at the plant when needed, developing teamwork and fostering team spirit within the production and delivery departments, and reporting directly to the Plant Foreman. Specific responsibilities include:
- Willingness to travel to various asphalt plants, with a company vehicle provided
- Maintaining a safe work environment for themselves and co-workers
- Following all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment
- Reporting any problems to the Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager
- Ensuring daily maintenance of the plant is completed and keeping the plant clean
- Reporting major maintenance problems to the Lead-man or Superintendent
- Assisting in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of the plant
- Performing general laboring duties when necessary
- Operating heavy equipment to move, load, and unload materials in asphalt production
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of related experience. They must maintain a safe driving record, have a valid driver’s license, and be reliable, hardworking, and able to work in a team environment. Additional requirements include:
- Passing a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and criminal background check
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
- Ability to operate a front-end loader and skid loader
- Ability to read, write, and do basic mathematical calculations to keep time and material records
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Basic knowledge of Excel and Word, as well as basic knowledge of electricity and mechanics

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and squat frequently
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA
