Utility Operator 1, Night Shift

About the role

This is a night shift position supporting our 2/2/3 schedule from 6pm-6am.

Responsibilities

• Operates and monitors utility systems, including compressed gases, cooling towers, plant steam, chillers, boilers, HVAC, fire alarm system, and utilities tank farm.
• Maintains equipment performance, conducts routine maintenance, troubleshoots issues, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Monitors equipment performance, analyzes data to identify areas of improvement, implements energy saving measures, and optimizes utility usage to minimize costs and environmental impact.
• Performs basic preventive maintenance on utility equipment.
• Assists with complex preventive maintenance tasks.
• Responds to equipment failures promptly.
• Maintains compressed gas inventory.
• Responds to emergency conditions, such as power outages, fire alarms, and critical equipment alarms.
• Monitors and assists with operating the site’s BMS and Delta V.
• Maintains chemical levels of boiler feed water, cooling tower water, and plant steam.
• Monitors and assists with operating the site’s waste neutralization system.
• Maintains utility systems and operations compliance with relevant regulation standards and guidelines.
• Maintains accurate records and assists with implementing corrective actions to address non-compliance issues.
• Supports process improvements under the direction of senior technician or supervisor.
• Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize utility operations, cost reductions, and efficiency enhancements.
• Supports site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours, as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 1-2 years of experience in Utility Operations or a related field.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to operate equipment and hand tools.
• Effective communication, both written and oral.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical sites.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Must be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on-call and weekends.

Skills

• Ability to discern audible cues.
• Ability to inspect or perform a task with 20/20 corrected vision, visual acuity, including distinguishing color.
• Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, up to 12 hours.
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, up to 12 hours.
• Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include wrists, hands and/or fingers.
• Ability to operate machinery and/or power tools.
• Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to 33 pounds.
• Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18” to 60” in height, and use twisting motions.
• Ability to work in warm/cold environments, from a range of 0-115 degree Fahrenheit.
• Ability to work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
• Ability to work in small and/or enclosed spaces.
• Ability to work in heights greater than 4 feet.
