About the role

Spivey Services is a leading provider of traffic safety and sanitation solutions in Virginia, offering traffic control, equipment rentals, and portable sanitation services—including restroom/shower trailers, hand-wash stations, and toilet accessories. The Utility Operations Technician is responsible for supporting daily field and yard operations through equipment handling, portable sanitation servicing, traffic and safety sign installation, and general facility maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment.
  • Load, unload, stage, and secure equipment for deliveries and pickups.
  • Assist with inventory management and equipment inspections.
  • Operate forklifts and other equipment as needed.
  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs on company assets.
  • Service portable toilets and sanitation equipment by pumping, cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking supplies.
  • Deliver, relocate, and retrieve portable sanitation units from customer locations.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate service records and route documentation.
  • Install, maintain, and remove traffic control signs, posts, and related safety devices.
  • Load and transport signs, tools, and materials to job sites.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Perform site preparation, measurements, and basic construction-related tasks.
  • Inspect installations to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
  • Assist with traffic control and work zone setup when required.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Previous experience in construction, traffic control, sanitation services, equipment operation, or general labor preferred.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts, trucks, and other equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
