Utility Meter Reader

We're hiring Utility Meter Readers in Tampa, FL. No experience is required, and paid training is provided.

About the role

If you consider yourself an independent worker and enjoy being outside, this job is for you. All meter readers are provided with a company vehicle and fuel card. Paid training starts at $19.10/hour for the first couple of weeks before transitioning to a piece rate, with earning potential to exceed $19/hour based on the number of meters read.

Responsibilities

• Read and record volume used by residential and commercial consumers to ensure accurate consumption and billing.
• Perform visual meter inspections to assess condition and operation, noting any visible defects or issues.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license.
• Successfully pass pre-employment screenings: drug test, background check, and driving record.
• Ability to walk up to 10-15 miles a day in all weather conditions.

Working Conditions and Schedule

• Hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm, with some weekends as required.
• Outdoor work environment including rain, snow, extreme cold, or high heat.
• Driving a company vehicle to and from work sites; may be exposed to road-related hazards.

Skills and Abilities

• Successfully complete the company’s training program and pass applicable written and field tests.
• Attention to detail and accuracy to record meter data.
• Ability to find locations/addresses by reading a map and handheld device and/or laptop.
• Ability to key data into a handheld device and/or laptop.
• Basic computer skills helpful.
• Learn and apply safety measures relating to motor vehicle operation and other field-related matters.

Pay

• Paid training: $19.10/hour for the first couple of weeks.
• Piece rate with earning potential to exceed $19/hour based on the number of meters read.
