Utility Mechanic position in Douglassville, PA with the Structures Division of the H&K Group, Inc.
About the role
The Structures Division is looking for a Utility Mechanic to perform all service and maintenance of small gas, diesel, and electric-powered hand tools. The ideal candidate has strong technical, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform all work adhering to OSHA/MSHA and H&K Safety policies
- Keep records of hour meter readings for power equipment at assigned location
- Complete and record all scheduled required servicing
- Maintain all tools in good working order
- Report to small tools superintendent on each visual inspection of problems that would require replacement or major repair
- Notify supervisor of any complications when servicing that would make equipment inoperable
- Overhaul small gas and diesel engines
- Keep a check and balance on parts and tools
- Maintain cleanliness of work site and tools
- Report all oil spills to supervisor
- Train on use and maintenance of new tools
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Problem-solving ability
- Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
- Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
Qualifications
- One year of relevant utility construction experience (preferred)
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Experienced in underground utilities such as storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main, and structures (preferred)
- Three years of related experience and/or training (preferred)
- OSHA or other relevant safety certifications (preferred)

- Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
- Regularly talk or hear
- Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Vision abilities include distance, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
- Noise level is usually moderate
