About the role
Join our team of experienced locators! United Locating Services is seeking a motivated and skilled Utility Locator to accurately locate and mark underground utilities to prevent damage during excavation and construction activities. This is a field-based, road/route position that plays a critical role in protecting utility infrastructure and ensuring public safety.
Responsibilities
- Underground Utility Detection: Use company-provided locating equipment to locate and mark underground utilities (gas, electric, communications, etc.).
- Mapping & Documentation: Accurately document located utilities and job details using required systems and tools.
- Communication & Coordination: Partner with construction crews, project managers, and other stakeholders to confirm scope, markings, and potential hazards.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines, company policies, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe work environment.
- Problem Solving: Identify and respond to field challenges quickly, prioritizing safe and accurate outcomes.
- Mobile/Route Work: Travel between assigned job sites throughout the day and work outdoors in varying conditions.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid, unexpired Driver’s License
- 1+ year of utility locating and/or damage prevention experience
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and adapt to different job sites
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Physically able to walk, stand, bend, and lift as needed in outdoor field environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with utility locating equipment and related technology
- Experience documenting work in mobile apps/systems used for locating
Pay
$22.00/hour – $25.00/hour, based on locating experience.

Schedule
Full-Time. Schedule varies based on operational needs, typically 8–10 hours per day.
