About the role

A Utility Lighting Helper assists in the construction, maintenance, and repair of utility-owned streetlights.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of utility-owned streetlights.
  • Capable of receiving and following directions.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Support safety initiatives using personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to setup work zone according to DOT standards.
  • Understands minimum approach distance, excavation, and shoring.
  • Basic understanding of tools and materials used in line work.

Requirements

  • Understands equipment and work site set up and grounding.
  • Accurately perform basic math calculations to include addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, and the use of measurements.
  • Proficiency in critical thinking, trouble shooting, and problem resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and nonverbal).
  • Requires self-motivation, organization, and prioritization management.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • CDL A (preferred) or the ability to obtain.

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; climb; lift and carry up to 60 lbs; crawl, kneel, push and reach; use hands to finger, handle, and feel.

Work Environment

  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
  • Noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • Performed in outside weather conditions.
