Utility Installation Laborer

Pay
Pay rates vary by project. Certain projects are subject to Davis-Bacon prevailing wage requirements and may pay substantially more than the company's standard base rate. The standard starting pay rate for laborer positions is $17.00 per hour.
About the role
Supports underground utility construction activities involving water, sewer, storm drainage, conduit, and related infrastructure. Mesa Verde/Agg Tec welcomes applicants from across Southern New Mexico and West Texas including Las Cruces, El Paso, Ruidoso, Roswell, Artesia, Carrizozo, Mescalero, Cloudcroft, and surrounding communities. A Travel Incentive Program is available for eligible employees.
Responsibilities
- Assist with installation of water, sewer, storm drain, and utility systems.
- Prepare trenches and excavation areas for utility installation.
- Help place and align pipe, fittings, structures, and related materials.
- Install bedding materials and assist with backfilling operations.
- Assist with trench safety systems and excavations.
- Direct equipment operators during utility placement when required.
- Use hand and power tools to support installation activities.
- Perform site cleanup and restoration activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Requirements
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor in outdoor environments.
- Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment.
- Ability to work safely around trenches and excavation operations.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attendance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous utility construction or general construction experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and loud machinery.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
