Utility Inspector

Responsibilities

• Inspect water mains and other structures such as roads, dams, and bridges.
• Ascertain structural soundness, safety, and compliance with codes and regulations.
• Document inspection results, noting deterioration, structural conditions, and deficiencies.
• Monitor progress and contribute to construction reports and project status updates.
• Conduct on-site investigations and review relevant data including maps, reports, and drawings.
• Comply with guidelines and regulations, ensuring technical documentation is delivered as required.
• Supervise subcontractors on-site and manage daily reporting and construction documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and construction practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications

• Experience in utility inspection or related field preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Pass a background check and drug screening.

Skills

• Proficient in using tablets for documentation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in diverse environments and weather conditions.
• Knowledge of local and state building codes and regulations.

Pay and Benefits

• The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Work Environment

• Work will be conducted at various project sites in Central NJ and Coastal North locations, including Scotch Plains and Middlesex.
• The role requires canvassing, surveying, and inspecting pipes, with documentation conducted via a tablet.
• The position requires a vehicle, with mileage reimbursement provided.
• Work hours are from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, with opportunities for overtime pay.
