Utility Electrician Supervisor I - Moccasin - Hetch Hetchy Water & Power - SFPUC - (7288) (Exempt)

About the role
This exempt position is located in Moccasin, 140 miles east of San Francisco, requiring a 5-hour round-trip commute. The role involves planning, scheduling, supervising, and performing inspection, maintenance, repair, installation, and testing of electrical systems and equipment (up to 600 volts energized and 601 volts to 301,000 volts de-energized) at SFPUC’s water, wastewater, power, and hydroelectric facilities. The appointment duration shall not exceed 24 months.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, supervise, and perform inspection, maintenance, repair, installation, and testing of electrical equipment up to 24,000 volts at utility facilities.
- Supervise and perform troubleshooting, diagnostic work, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage conductors and solid-state electronic equipment.
- Maintain, adjust, and operate power-generating and substation equipment.
- Supervise de-energized maintenance, repairs, and testing of electrical components (e.g., circuit breakers, transformers) at substations and power-generating facilities rated up to 300,000 volts.
- Ensure compliance with safe work practices and adherence to industry-standard electrical safety requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Schedule routine inspections and initiate preventive maintenance to maintain reliability standards.
- Review work plans, interpret wiring diagrams and electrical code requirements, and inspect completed work for compliance.
- Train subordinates in proper methods and procedures, support on-the-job training, and implement work process improvements.
- Coordinate with engineers and technical experts to develop work plans and meet with representatives of other departments, organizations, and the public regarding electrical projects.
- Estimate labor, materials, and supplies; track job costs to align with estimates.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Perform additional assigned duties.
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized five-year Inside Wireman Apprenticeship Program or other verifiable five-year industrial electrical training program.
- Five years of verifiable journey-level electrician experience in the installation, maintenance, and operation of high-voltage systems (above 600 volts).
- Possession of a valid California (Class C) driver license.
Substitution: Additional verifiable journey-level electrician experience (above 600 volts) may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
