About the role
This position involves answering incoming calls from Utility customers, department personnel, government agencies, and others. Responsibilities include taking accurate descriptions of problems or issues, addresses, and other pertinent details, as well as determining the nature and priority of calls.
Responsibilities
- Answer incoming calls from Utility customers, department personnel, government agencies, and others; take accurate descriptions of problems or issues, addresses, and other pertinent details; and determine the nature and priority of calls.
- Dispatch personnel to locations needing service: operate two-way radio or console; relay and confirm information, instructions, and directives; and follow up with callers as needed.
- Monitor alarms and cameras for Department buildings and facilities: report alarms and dispatch personnel as needed.
- Maintain call logs, dispatch information, and work orders: enter, update, and retrieve information from Department databases; and verify entries for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform related duties for the Department of Transportation after hours.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Two years of experience in related dispatch operations.
- Proficiency in performance of essential functions and ability to learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures.
Physical Abilities
- Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
- Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
- Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Schedule
This position requires shift work and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Pay
The starting pay for this position is $18.31 per hour.
