Job Title: Utility Designer Job Description This role involves developing designs for electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground circuits for joint use, lighting, and commercial, industrial, and residential development. The position requires using technical skills and accurate field data collection to complete design work. The designer will assist with storm restoration when requested and often interact with clients, customers, and construction crews. The role involves working independently on design projects using specifications and design aid tools. Responsibilities Produce electric distribution design drawings and bills of materials necessary for the construction of moderately complex projects.Perform field data collection using standard tools, methods, and processes, and conduct necessary project-specific inspections accurately and efficiently.Become familiar with technical skills including cable pulling calculations, cable voltage drop calculations, transformer loading calculations, and pole loading analysis calculations.Understand client construction standards, construction and workflow processes, and customer charging guidelines.Generate permitting and other project supporting documentation as needed.Understand the hazards of the distribution system and navigate roles to prevent dangerous situations and mitigate hazards during both office and field work.Actively ensure the safety of oneself and others in all aspects of the work.Attend and engage in scheduled safety meetings and adhere to driving and site hazard identification, mitigation, and reporting training.Work on storm response local or travel teams as an Assessor and Team Lead Learner. Essential Skills Proficiency in distribution design, drafting, and utility design. Additional Skills & Qualifications An engineering degree is preferred.A valid driver’s license is required.Motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cincinnati, OH. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
