Utilities Construction Worker I, II, III, Senior
About the role
This position is responsible for performing heavy, manual work installing and maintaining County sewer collection network. It involves clearing easements, repairing and cleaning sewer lines, mixing concrete, adjusting and repairing manholes, assisting construction crews, and maintaining tools and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Clears easements by brush cutting, weed trimming, and using chainsaw to cut trees or limbs.
- Repairs and cleans sewer lines and systems.
- Mixes concrete.
- Adjusts and repairs manholes.
- Assists construction crew in all phases of daily operations.
- Maintains and cleans tools and equipment.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Some experience in operating hand and power tools.
- Completion or possession of the following certifications/trainings or ability to obtain within one year of employment:
- Competent Person Trench Safety
- Confined Space Entry
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Virginia Flagger
- Mandatory County annual training
- General knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including tractors, front end loaders, and hand tools.
- Must be able to lift between 75 -100 pounds, and bend and stoop when performing installation and repair work.
Qualifications
- Utilities Construction Worker I: Must meet and maintain all the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and certifications for Utilities Construction Worker I.
- Utilities Construction Worker II: Must meet and maintain all the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and certifications for Utilities Construction Worker I, and have one year of satisfactory York County experience at the Utilities Construction Worker I level, or two years of direct utilities construction experience.
- Utilities Construction Worker III: Must meet and maintain all the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and certifications for Utilities Construction Worker I and II, and have two years of satisfactory York County experience at the Utilities Construction Worker II level, or four years of direct utilities construction experience.
- Senior Utilities Construction Worker: Must meet and maintain all the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and certifications for Utilities Construction Worker I, II, and III, and have two years of satisfactory York County experience at the Utilities Construction Worker III level, or greater than five years of direct utilities construction experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of sewer preventive maintenance equipment.
- Experience in plumbing work or sewer maintenance and repair.
- OSHA Construction Industry Standards training or certification.
- Chainsaw safety training.
- Experience in Short Line/Pipe Patch System equipment.
- Experience in the operation of backhoes, dump trucks, excavators, or other excavation equipment.
- Pipeline, Manhole, and Lateral Assessment Certificate (PACP/MACP/LACP).
- General operation and safety training for hand and power tools, and other equipment used in the utilities construction field.

Pay
$46,581.00 - $69,880.50 Annually based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Full-time position with occasional overtime and on-call requirements.
