USGS Surveying Volcanoes in the Western United States
About the role
The USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory (CVO) is seeking a participant to assist with geodetic surveying and monitoring of ground deformation at Cascade volcanoes and the Yellowstone caldera.
Responsibilities
- Collect, process, and interpret GPS and gravity data
- Deploy and maintain volcano monitoring equipment
- Assist in remote sensing techniques such as interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR)
- Interact with professional volcanologists in field and office settings
- Gain experience with volcanic environments and geodetic research
Requirements
This opportunity is open to U.S. citizens, LPRs, and foreign nationals. The participant should be currently pursuing or have received a bachelor's or master's degree in relevant fields within the last 48 months or anticipate receiving by 6/1/2029.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's or master's degree in relevant fields
- Strong interest in volcanology and geodetic research
- Basic knowledge of GPS and InSAR techniques
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Skills
- Proficiency in GIS software
- Experience with remote sensing techniques
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
