USGS Quantitative Molecular Biology Fellowship

About the role

The USGS Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center (NOROCK) and Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) seek a postdoctoral fellow to develop, optimize, and implement scalable pipelines for environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding data.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience applying cutting-edge molecular approaches to produce actionable data for natural resource decision making.
  • Learn to collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams on quantitative analyses of complex genomic datasets.
  • Learn to use remote, high powered computer clusters to process large datasets.

Requirements

  • The qualified candidate should have received or be currently pursuing a doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields (molecular biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, or a similar discipline).
  • Experience analyzing environmental DNA metabarcoding datasets.
  • Experience in python and R programming languages.
  • Co-authorship of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating evidence of the above skills.
  • Experience with multiple bioinformatic pipelines in high-throughput computing environments and implementing these pipelines and additional analytical methods in the R programming language.

Benefits

  • Stipend range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 annually.

Pay

  • Stipend: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 yearly.

Schedule

  • Appointment length: Initially for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of DOI and is contingent on the availability of funds.
  • Level of participation: Full-time.
