JustinBradley’s client, a multinational media and entertainment company, is seeking a User Research Assistant with a passion for gaming and research science. This hybrid role is based in Burbank, CA.
About the Role
As a User Research Assistant, you will moderate groups (4–24 participants) through test sessions on console, PC, and mobile products, collecting data on games. You will observe participant behavior and communicate insights back to the research team. Training will be provided, but prior knowledge of research practices is critical.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute research studies.
- Support lead researchers in investigating gameplay behavior to uncover insights.
- Handle operational tasks, including lab setup and procedures.
- Administer playtests in a non-biased manner.
- Contribute to high-quality research reports, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative findings into actionable insights for product, design, and engineering teams.
- Support expert reviews (heuristic evaluations, UX audits, competitive assessments) to identify usability issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Clean and code qualitative and quantitative data for analysis.
- Use survey tools to draft, distribute, and administer surveys.
- Search, filter, schedule, and communicate with playtest participants using databases.
- Recruit the necessary participants and profiles for each study.
- Maintain lab supply inventory, forecasting and restocking as needed.
- Assist with special projects (data entry, recruiting events, game teardowns, documentation, etc.).
Requirements
- Completion of a relevant college degree (experimental psychology, human-computer interaction, human factors, or related field).
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups with authority.
- Experience moderating research sessions (focus groups, workshops, playtests, or other qualitative research).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Office 365 tools, survey/data analysis tools, and databases.
- Experience with Mural or Figma.
- Comfortable setting up lab hardware and troubleshooting device connectivity issues.
- Knowledge of research design, qualitative, and quantitative methodologies.
- Familiarity with game design theory and video game development processes.
- Ability to adapt and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Genuine passion for gaming in all forms.
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience using AI-powered transcription tools for video/audio recordings.
- Experience with Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, or similar AI platforms to automate workflows.
- Familiarity with quantitative research methods, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Experience troubleshooting PC/console hardware, software, or game builds for playtests.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and research tools.
Pay
Up to $32/hour.
