Research Assistant

Responsibilities

Support computational research activities, maintain documentation, and assist with project related technical tasks.

Requirements

• B.S. in Physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with computers, scientific computing, and programming languages.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member to accomplish project goals.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding scientific and technical procedures under close supervision.
• Attention to detail and ability to recognize deviations from established procedures or expected results.
• Able to maintain accurate records and documentation of research activities and findings.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in a research laboratory or technical research environment is preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of quantum mechanics and quantum computing principles.
• Experience with quantum circuit design and simulation.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar.

Skills

• Programming and development of quantum circuits.
• Validation of quantum circuits against tensor network simulations and exact calculations.
• Execution of quantum circuits on quantum computing hardware.
• Data analysis and verification.
• Documentation and record-keeping.
• Technical writing and reporting.

The expected hourly range for this position is $23.97 - $26.69, which fits into the full hourly range of $23.97 - $34.86 depending upon the candidate's skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
