Research Assistant

About the role

The department of Medicine, division of Infectious Diseases, at the University of Miami is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to join their team on the UHealth campus.

Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus and makes minor repairs.
• Prepares correspondence and answers phones.
• Formulates and maintains bibliographies and completes applications and forms.
• Orders laboratory supplies and maintains culture media reagents.
• Set up instruments, materials and apparatus and operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
• Reviews and edits various materials for publication and prepares publication schedules.
• Maintains appropriate logs, records, and laboratory notebooks.
• Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Works under the direction of the principal investigator, program director or designee, such as a Lab Manager or above.
• Assemble annual and monthly reports and presentations.
• Communicate with the PI or assigned supervisor regarding experimental data, laboratory, or other work-related issues.

Qualifications

• CORE QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
• SKILLS AND ATTITUDES: Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University’s core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
