USDA-ARS Fellowship in Soil Health and Production Parameters in Organic Cropping Systems
About the role
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking a fellow to participate in a long-term organic crop rotation study at the Agroecosystem Management Research Unit (AMRU) in Lincoln, Nebraska. The fellow will work under the guidance of a mentor to evaluate dynamic soil properties and crop performance in organic and conventional systems.
Responsibilities
- Collect and process soil, plant, and land emission samples
- Conduct laboratory analyses of soil physical, chemical, and biological parameters
- Data summarization and analysis under the mentor’s supervision
- Collaborate with scientists from multiple disciplines in soil, plant, and environmental sciences
- Gain knowledge of organic and conventional agricultural practices
- Enhance scientific communication skills
Requirements
This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens only. The qualified candidate should have received a bachelor's degree in any of the listed disciplines within the past five years.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Marine Sciences or related field
- Experience in laboratory and field environments
- Basic understanding of data tabulation and statistical analysis using computers and software packages
- Experience with optimizing specialized equipment and automated systems

Schedule
The appointment will initially be for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of ARS and is contingent on the availability of funds.
