Position Summary
As a Principal Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including cloud-native architectures and AI/ML frameworks, to support millions of users. This role involves driving the full software development lifecycle, fostering technical excellence, and mentoring engineering teams. You will collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into innovative technical solutions while ensuring system reliability and performance. What you'll do
- Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable, reusable infrastructure and tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps.
- Arcitect and implement cloud-native, distributed systems ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
- Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, including coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Integrate AI/ML capabilities into software products to enhance customer and associate experiences.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams, promoting best practices and innovation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and measure success through clear metrics.
- Maintain architectural documentation and ensure alignment with long-term platform goals.

The team developed Walmart Luminate, a platform providing actionable, customer-centric insights that empower CPGs and Walmart merchants to make informed, data-driven decisions efficiently. What you'll bring
- Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps.
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture and distributed system design ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
- Strong proficiency in software development lifecycle management, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
- Demonstrated ability to architect AI/ML integrated applications using languages such as Python, Java, and C++.
- Skilled in applying model-driven design and leveraging advanced development tools to enhance velocity and quality.
- Effective technical leadership and mentorship fostering engineering excellence and innovation.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
