About the role
You will represent the company in vision care and patient engagement by delivering exceptional customer service through all patient interactions.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update patient information in vision center systems (e.g., BOSS) in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner.
- Assist vision center staff (e.g., opticians) on best practices and procedures, ensuring adherence to state, local, and federal healthcare regulations and Walmart Vision Center guidelines.
- Perform administrative and retail tasks for the vision center as necessary, such as financial transactions, patient registration, and retail transactions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., pharmacists, clinics, store management) and external stakeholders (e.g., healthcare professionals) to ensure coordinated and integrated patient care and high-quality customer service.
- Provide evidence-based vision care to ensure patients' health and well-being by:
- Recommending and prescribing medications and treatment options (e.g., red eye, LASIK surgery, cataract surgery) using evidence-based care guidelines.
- Delivering routine vision care and educating patients and store associates on eye health, including contact lens care, disease state management, and safety factors.
- Recommending appropriate patient follow-up and consulting with other health professionals to prepare and coordinate patient care plans in accordance with optometry scope of practice per state board.
- Providing patients with appropriate referrals to ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Following up with patients and other health professionals regarding outstanding diagnostics, tests, or other patient information.
- Evaluate patients' health conditions across the full vision center scope of service (e.g., visual acuity, visual function, eye health, keratometry, refraction) to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment by:
- Reviewing complete patient medical history and performing comprehensive eye examinations.
- Examining eyes utilizing observation instruments and pharmaceutical agents to determine visual acuity, perception, focus, coordination, and identify signs of vision defects (e.g., injury, disease, abnormality).
- Prescribing, fitting, and adjusting eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
- Suggesting, ordering, interpreting, and assessing diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma testing, macular degeneration, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)).
- Providing additional vision treatment (e.g., foreign body removal) as necessary.
- Developing treatment plans based on patients' clinical presentation using evidence-based care guidelines.
- Provide overall direction by:
- Analyzing business objectives and customer needs to develop, communicate, and implement business strategies, plans, and practices.
- Analyzing costs and forecasts and incorporating them into business plans.
- Determining and supporting resource requirements, evaluating operational processes, and measuring outcomes to ensure desired results.
- Identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities, promoting a customer-focused environment, and demonstrating adaptability.
- Sponsoring continuous learning and development.
- Develop and implement strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by:

Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Optometry (OD) from an accredited optometry school.
- Licensed optometrist in good standing in the state of practice.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in healthcare.

Pay
The hourly wage range for this position is $64.90 - $96.15. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances (e.g., based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed). Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.
