Job Knowledge
This position is responsible for utilizing ultrasound equipment to assist in the diagnosis of various medical conditions for patients in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions.
- Explains the procedure to patients in a way they will understand.
- Records any medical history that may be relevant to the exam.
- Obtains and provides diagnostic images, measurements, and preliminary reports of patients of all ages for review by the Radiologist.
- Maintains HIPAA compliance.
- Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.
- Assist Radiologist with ultrasound guided procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Associate or bachelor’s degree in sonography from accredited school preferred. On the job training in hospitals, vocational-technical institutions, and the Armed Forces accepted.
Experience
No minimum experience required.
Other Requirements
- ARDMS registered preferred, registry eligible conditional and maintains ongoing CEU’s as applicable.
- Basic Life Support required.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must comply with all duties, policies, and requirements of Outpatient Radiology and Banner Wyoming Medical Center and applicable agencies.
- Must continue to be in compliance with all requirements.
- State licensure, CMEs , HIPAA, OSHA, OIG, SAMS,
Knowledge
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, instrumentation, patient care, and medical ethics.
- Working knowledge in abdominal, obgyn, breast, vascular, pediatrics, and emergent exams.
- Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement practices to establish a safe work environment.

Work Environment
Both the outpatient and inpatient setting including portable exams and OR procedures. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to clinic settings is possible.
Physical Requirements
- Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with a Sonographer such as standing for long periods. May have to lift/turn disabled patients.
- Work primarily at diagnostic imaging machines involving ability to see and touch machines clearly and function buttons on machine, standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching.
