US Engineer Supporting A21 UK Integration (R&D Engineer 2/3)

About the role

The W93 Systems Development and Realization Group (Q-20) is seeking an R&D Engineer 2/3 to support the United Kingdom's Astrea A21/Mk7 Warhead Program Integration. This position plays a central role in coordinating the design and engineering integration activities between the US and UK programs.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate technical and programmatic communication across both efforts, participating in working groups and subgroups to understand evolving requirements and priorities.
  • Support responses to technical questions from the UK A21 integration team. This includes working with US subject matter experts to evaluate inquiries, determine relevance to the W93 program, and develop clear, accurate responses.
  • Coordinate with NNSA and other agencies to develop official responses through appropriate channels when requirement or capability gaps are identified.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet schedule and deliverables for multiple assigned projects.
  • Ability to develop and foster successful cross-organizational teams to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as the ability to be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • R&D Engineer 2: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • R&D Engineer 3: Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A Ph.D. may be preferred.

Skills

  • Knowledge of Nuclear Weapons Systems and subsystems.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: nuclear weapon design, development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, or surveillance.
  • System Engineering Experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet schedule and deliverables for multiple assigned projects.
  • Ability to develop and foster successful cross-organizational teams to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as the ability to be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.

Pay

  • R&D Engineer 2: $106,400 - $176,000
  • R&D Engineer 3: $128,000 - $215,900

Schedule

  • The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
