About the role
The Lead Automation Engineer designs, implements, and improves Automation systems within the fulfillment network. This role works closely with functional stakeholders, vendors, and other engineers to solve ambiguous problems autonomously.
Responsibilities
- Principal point of contact with external vendors and system integrators to develop automated order fulfillment solutions utilizing industry-leading technology such as AMRs, Robotics, ASRS, and sortation systems.
- Lead the design effort for implementing new technology within a distribution center, including creating detailed Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and requirements documentation to ensure a cohesive end-to-end design.
- Lead data analytic efforts for designing and measuring success for Automation projects, extracting clear and concise outputs from messy inputs.
- Optimize Distribution Center layouts, material flows, and Automation equipment.
- Work autonomously with cross-functional team members to ensure their business needs are met by new system designs.
- Own business case justification for new technology and/or CapEx purchases.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers and team members, improving their technical and soft skills.
- Translate complex technical information into simple documentation and presentations, independently.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar field.
- 8+ years of engineering experience in multi-site industrial distribution, manufacturing, or processing environments.
- Experience with Warehouse Conveyance (Right Angle Transfers, MDR, Sortation, Spirals, etc.) including working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude and an ability to understand how equipment and systems operate.
- Experience with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS/WES) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Experience with SQL (Snowflake, MSSQL) and advanced data visualization tools (Tableau, Grafana, etc.).
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and professional attitude, with the ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization.
- Ability to analyze and provide solutions for cost reduction through automation implementation and cost/benefit analysis.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and the ability to meet concurrent project deadlines.
- Proven ability to deliver polished, high-quality presentations and reports that influence and accelerate business decision-making.

Pay
- Texas: $127,890—$147,900 USD
- Newark, NJ: $147,000—$170,000 USD
- Arizona: $127,890—$147,900 USD
