US Commercial Manager

About the role

GHD is excited to announce its search for the US Commercial Manager. This position is key to the project team, focusing on projects classified as Elevated Risk Activities under GHD's LOA. The Commercial Manager is accountable for the successful commercial delivery of projects, including compliance with contractual notification and claim requirements within prescribed timeframes. They ensure adherence to GHD's risk management and governance processes throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent commercial, risk, and contract management leadership to support GHD’s governance and performance throughout the project life cycle.
  • Assist with the positioning of GHD to undertake services, including preparing teaming, partnering, and joint venture agreements.
  • Collaborate with Legal Counsel, Operations Manager, and other stakeholders to develop and negotiate contractual departures aligned with GHD’s risk appetite.
  • Participate in Tender Review Groups (TRGs) and subsequent gateway approvals as required under the LOA, assisting bid teams with briefing presentations and notes to senior management.
  • Prepare regional guidance notes and guides to assist project teams in managing contract/commercial risks associated with master services or panel agreements.
  • Deliver commercial and contract management training to GHD personnel.
  • Assist with financial modeling for GHD’s commercial offers to clients.
  • Undertake Commercial Health Checks or other commercial reviews for projects in accordance with relevant procedures.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

  • An undergraduate degree, preferably an advanced degree, in a related field.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in the successful delivery of projects or in a corporate governance role.
  • A strong understanding of commercial frameworks, strategies, and drivers in the professional services and construction contracting industries.
  • Extensive experience in negotiating commercial contracts and managing projects.
  • A commercially astute approach with sound business acumen.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess:

  • A strong academic background, typically an undergraduate degree, preferably an advanced degree.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in the construction contracting industry.
  • A detailed understanding of commercial frameworks, strategies, and drivers.
  • Extensive experience in negotiating commercial contracts and managing projects.
  • A commercially astute approach with sound business acumen.

Skills

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong commercial and legal acumen.
  • Experience in the professional services and/or construction contracting industry.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with legal counsel, operations managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in preparing and delivering commercial and contract management training.
  • Experience in financial modeling and assisting with client commercial offers.
  • Knowledge of conducting Commercial Health Checks and other commercial reviews.
