Urgent Care - South Shore - Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - FT

About the Role

The Urgent Care Physician Assistant works as part of an inter-professional team to provide efficient, high-quality, cost-effective care in the outpatient clinic setting, telehealth visits, and occupational medicine. Working under the supervision of a Medical Director and within a collaborative practice model, you will deliver care within the scope of your licensing and credentialing, in accordance with allowed privileges.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes approved medical practices in the delivery of patient care.
• Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and age-related criteria for patients served.
• Maintains an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes; may develop research methodology.
• Provides education to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community.
• Performs duties including ordering and interpreting radiology tests, Point of Care Testing, lab testing, EKG reading, minor procedures (e.g., lacerations, incision and drainage of abscesses), and care for pediatric patients (6 months and older).
• Provides training and education to staff, including new Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and students.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, communication style, and explanation of services or procedures.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives, staff development, and patient/caregiver education.
• Assumes responsibility for professional development.
• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory requirements applicable to the assigned area and ensures compliance.
• Other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
• Master’s degree in Nursing (Required).
• Licensed in the state of practice as a Physician Assistant.
• National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
• Eligible for Prescriptive Authority within the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing.
• Licensed in the state of practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
• ANCC/AANPCP Certification (for Nurse Practitioners).

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of related working experience.
• Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Medical Examiner Certification and registration with the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

• Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and information retrieval.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Proficiency with Windows-style applications, various role-specific software packages, and keyboard use.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at department and system levels.
• Reliable transportation for travel between facilities.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to work independently, as clinics are typically single or double provider coverage.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
• Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste.
