Urgent Care Physician PRN

About the Role

The Physician is accountable for patient care and completing all clinical responsibilities. This role involves multidisciplinary team coordination, medical education for residents and students, and contributing to medical research. The incumbent provides independent judgment in diagnosis, treatment, and direction of the interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes literature and attends regional/national meetings to remain professionally competent.
• Participates in patient, staff, and professional education programs, including didactic material, formal teaching conferences, clinical teaching, and clinical research.
• Acts as a liaison with professional staff and develops patient referral sources.
• Keeps referring physicians informed of patient care and outcomes.
• Provides direct and indirect patient care in assigned areas, including medical supervision of the interdisciplinary team, residents, and medical students.
• Participates in clinical research projects of interest.
• Ensures accurate and timely documentation for medical records and billing purposes.
• Models and upholds professional standards, including Cone Health’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
• Demonstrates collegial and respectful relationships with colleagues, patients, associates, and visitors.
• Participates in medical audits, quality improvement programs, investigations, and peer reviews.
• Provides medical supervision and leadership to achieve maximum benefit for each patient while ensuring safe practice standards and regulatory compliance.
• Engages in continuous improvement and evidence-based practices to achieve preeminent healthcare outcomes.
• Maintains records in accordance with Cone Health policies and applicable laws.
• Participates in the development of clinical guidelines, procedures, and programs to improve quality and efficiency of care.
• Shares designated on-call responsibilities with other physicians.

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a medical school recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board. Equivalent foreign degrees are also accepted.
• Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training, if required).
• Board certification recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty). If five or more years have elapsed since residency completion, current board certification is required.
• Fully licensed to practice medicine in North Carolina.
• Meets requirements of Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains appropriate medical staff privileges.
• Current and valid DEA registration number with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority.
• Professional liability insurance through commercial coverage or a program of self-insurance.
