Urgent Care - Pediatric - Full Time - NP/PA APP

Department: 02190 WFBMG University Group Practice: Kernersville – Full time, benefits eligible position with 35 hours per week.

About the Role

Join Wake Forest Emergency Providers as an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) in North Carolina—part of Advocate Health, one of the largest nonprofit integrated health systems in the country. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to care primarily for pediatric patients with immediate healthcare needs in an Urgent Care setting. You’ll bridge the gap between outpatient and inpatient care, providing timely and impactful care for patients and families.

This position includes a co-appointment with the Atrium Health Wake Forest Brenner’s Pediatric Emergency Department, where 20% of your monthly hours will be spent working alongside a collaborative team of APPs, residents, fellows, and attendings in a Level 1 pediatric trauma and burn center.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert care with a strong level of independence, using thoughtful medical judgment, diagnostic testing, and advanced procedural skills.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions with increasing independent expertise, practicing at the top of your license.
• Perform standard urgent care procedures, including but not limited to eye examinations, pelvic examinations, neurologic examinations, EKG interpretations, suturing, I&D, and simple splinting.
• Utilize emergency department evaluations, assessment tools, and diagnostic scoring tools.
• Familiarize yourself with emergency department processes, admission guidelines, and capabilities.
• Work collaboratively within a 100% Advanced Practice Provider staffing model, with access to ED attendings and the Medical Director for Pediatric Urgent Care for guidance.
• Occasionally work irregular hours and support emergency resources and community partners as needed.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• North Carolina Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license (NPs must be ACPNP, ENP, or FNP boarded or eligible).
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• 1 year of Emergency Department experience or 2 years of community urgent care experience in a full-time capacity (does not include walk-in clinics or urgent care virtual services).
• Comfortable with standard urgent care procedures and examination skills.
• Familiarity with emergency department evaluations, assessment tools, and processes.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform complex patient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Ability to work a rotating shift schedule.
• Professionalism and strong customer service skills.

Schedule

30 to 35 hours per week, with up to 2 weekends per month. No overnight shifts.

• Kernersville: 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm daily.
• Pisgah Church: 7am-7pm during the week, 8am-6pm on weekends.
• New Garden: 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm during the week, 8am-8pm on weekends.
• Friendly Center: 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm during the week, 8am-8pm on weekends.
• Oak Ridge: 8am-8pm daily.

Clinicians have a “home location” where they work primarily but may also provide coverage across multiple sites.

Pay

Pay range: $59.00 - $88.50 per hour.
