About the Role

Join Wake Forest Emergency Providers as an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) in North Carolina—part of Advocate Health, one of the largest nonprofit integrated health systems in the country. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to care primarily for pediatric patients with immediate healthcare needs in an advanced Urgent Care setting. You’ll bridge the gap between outpatient and inpatient care, providing timely and impactful care for patients and families.

This position includes a co-appointment with the Atrium Health Wake Forest Brenner’s Pediatric Emergency Department, where 20% of your monthly hours will be spent working alongside a collaborative team of APPs, residents, fellows, and attendings in a Level 1 pediatric trauma and burn center.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert care with a strong level of independence, using thoughtful medical judgment, appropriate diagnostic testing, and advanced procedural skills.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions with increasing independent expertise, practicing at the top of your license.
  • Perform standard urgent care procedures, including but not limited to eye examinations, pelvic examinations, neurologic examinations, EKG interpretations, suturing, incision and drainage (I&D), and simple splinting.
  • Utilize emergency department evaluations, assessment tools, and diagnostic scoring tools.
  • Familiarize yourself with emergency department processes, admission guidelines, and capabilities.
  • Work collaboratively within a 100% Advanced Practice Provider staffing model, with access to ED attendings and the Medical Director for Pediatric Urgent Care by phone or email.
  • Occasionally support emergency resources and community partners as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • North Carolina Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) license. NPs must be ACPNP, ENP, or FNP boarded or eligible.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • 1 year of Emergency Department experience or 2 years of community urgent care experience in a full-time capacity (does not include walk-in clinics or urgent care virtual services).
  • Comfortable with standard urgent care procedures and examination skills.
  • Familiarity with emergency department evaluations, processes, and admission guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Ability to perform complex patient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, including up to 2 weekends per month.
  • Professionalism and strong customer service skills.

Pay

Pay range: $59.00 - $88.50 per hour.

Schedule

  • 30 or 35 hours per week schedules available.
  • No overnight shifts.
  • Up to 2 weekends per month.
  • Location schedules (clinicians have a "home location" but may provide coverage across multiple sites):
    • Kernersville: 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm daily.
    • Pisgah Church: 7am-7pm during the week, 8am-6pm on weekends.
    • New Garden: 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm during the week, 8am-8pm on weekends.
    • Friendly Center: 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm during the week, 8am-8pm on weekends.
    • Oak Ridge: 8am-8pm daily.

  • Fast-paced with long hours; ability to deliver results under pressure.
