Urban Outfitters Assistant Buyer - One Piece Dressing
Role Responsibilities
- Works with the Buyer to determine the overall mix of product for each buying area.
- Ensures the final mix is customer-oriented and aligned with the profit plan.
- Gives regular feedback on products in all styleouts and product-related meetings.
- Eagerness to contribute to product development by collaborating with the Buyer and vendor partners.
- Provides ad hoc statistical reports to Buyers upon request.
- Maintains accurate Buy Sheets by class.
- Maintains and updates excel reports for buyers and planners as needed.
- Takes photos of samples when needed and maintains photo logs or libraries of samples.
- Creates new purchase orders and makes revisions as needed.
- Works in conjunction with Vendor Relations to onboard new vendors.
- Maintains class attributes and updates as needed.
- Ensures timely delivery of merchandise through tracking and monitoring of receipts.
- Manages receipts alongside OTB availability, ensuring classes are not overbought.
- Collaborates with cross-functional partners when shifting orders or receipts.
- Supports pre-classing and pack and holds.
- Manages samples within the Department.
- Obtains samples from vendors for all product meetings and manages the safe return of all samples.
- Ensures that all "kept" samples are neatly organized by classification and by season.
- Regularly clears out old samples and maintains a tidy sample area.
- Manages photo handover weekly where new product gets shot for the web.
- Speaks clearly in all meetings and email correspondence.
- Ensures all written documents (including email) are grammatically correct.
- Represents and confidently speaks about the UO brand and customer to all outward-facing market vendors.
- Manages large magnitude of email streams across a diverse vendor database and communicates updates to manager regarding vendor feedback.
- Develops collaborative relationships with internal and external colleagues including planning, creative, DC, etc.
- Gains understanding of all roles and responsibilities within the organization and is flexible and cooperative in working with teams to achieve a common goal.
Qualifications
- 1 to 2 years in retail or direct buying office or as a member of a store management team is preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of the UO target customer and the ability to select appropriate product trends that appeal to the customer and meet their expectations.
- Fundamental understanding of statistical components of the business (IMU%, MD%, GM%, selloff, WOS, etc.) and OTB.
- A professional communication style (both verbal and written) as shown through strong presentation skills, excellent organizational skills, and a high sense of urgency.
- The ability to prioritize tasks to balance immediate and long-term needs of the business with a high sense of urgency.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to learn new computer systems quickly and retain the information.
