About the role

ECC Elgin Community College serves over 9,000 students across various educational programs. The college fosters a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. This position supports academic programs for Upward Bound participants, providing guidance and ensuring compliance with funding agency regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate educational support services for eligible participants, ensuring they receive necessary information to succeed.
  • Advise and counsel Upward Bound participants regarding academic requirements, standings, and financial aid.
  • Assist with in-service activities and assessments for high-need students, arranging tutoring assistance and computer lab time/training.
  • Cultivate personal growth opportunities for students, developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Support management in evaluating activities and writing/grant proposal submissions.
  • Maintain accurate participant data, running routine reports for management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and adhere to privacy laws.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide support during staffing shortages or increased workload.
  • Adhere to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university, with two years of relevant experience in education and/or human services.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Good knowledge of community college counseling best practices.

  • Proficiency in using a personal computer and applicable software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sensitivity, understanding, and respect for diverse populations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software, and peripheral equipment.
  • Learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.

Pay

This is a Part-Time Support Staff position at grade 14, with an hourly pay rate of $26.67 to $35.57. The offer will be based on education and experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), if applicable.

Schedule

Work Schedule TBD, Minimum: Monday - Thursdays 2:00pm-5:00pm. One Saturday per month 9:00am-2:00pm.
