About the role

A UPS Technician II is responsible for startups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance for systems related to Uninterruptable Power Supply systems, including Battery Systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform UPS replacements and new installations.
• Perform preventative maintenance, trouble diagnosis, routine, and emergency repairs of all types of systems without supervision and with minimal disruption to customer.
• Install, trouble diagnose, repair, start-up, and commission all types of UPS systems.
• Lead jobs with multiple crew members of various skill levels.
• Communicate and work effectively with general contractors, subcontractors, partners, and clients to complete projects on schedule and within budget.
• Operate all equipment including but not limited to: UPS systems, Battery systems, PDUs, ATS, and AC/DC rectifiers.
• Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills with co-workers, sales teams, engineering partners, management teams, and clients.
• Accurately assess human power requirements for maintenance and installation services.
• Estimate consumables and connectivity parts for project completion.
• Recognize when crew productivity and safety are jeopardized due to duration of efforts or extreme conditions.
• Exercise leadership and good judgement to ensure healthy, harmonious, productive, and happy team performance.
• Foster great team morale and spirit of cooperation on job sites and operations center.
• Balance multiple needs and challenges from various directions.
• Teach learned skills, techniques, strategies, and methods to the next generation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Requirements

• High School Diploma & a minimum of 3 to 5 years UPS service experience.
• Electrical/mechanical experience relating to UPS systems, DC systems, and knowledge of OEMs such as: Eaton, Mitsubishi, Schneider, APC, GE, Emerson, etc.
• Clean driving record and safe operation of department equipment.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn basic AC/DC theory, electronic components, and electronic circuitry.
• Complete training on:
  • Use of Digital multimeter for AC and DC diagnostic measurements.
  • Use of Amp Clamp and flexible CT in DC and AC measures.
  • Use of Phase Rotation Meter, Power Quality Analyzer, IR camera, and Oscilloscope.
  • Proper use of:
    • Isolation devices to control available voltage potentials.
    • Necessary use of Arc-Flash suit and PPE.
• Competency in the connections of series, parallel, and series parallel.
• Understand torque values, torque-mark application, and visual inspection of completed installations.
• Understand and operate Phase Rotation meters and Power Quality meters.
• US Citizenship.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.

Certificates and Licenses

• OSHA 30-hour certification.
• NFPA-70E Safety Training.
• Thermography, level 2 or higher.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit; standing and walking are required.
• Must lift and carry up to 50–70 pounds.
• Must occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review, in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. Positions requiring driving must have an MVR that meets company and insurance carrier standards.
