Position Summary
A UPS Technician II is responsible for assisting with startups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance for systems related to Uninterruptable Power Supply systems, including Battery Systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Knowledge and ability to assist on UPS replacements and new installations.
- Knowledge and ability to assist on preventative maintenance, trouble diagnosis, routine, and emergency repairs of all types of systems without supervision and with minimal disruption to customers.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively.
- With supervision, assist on all equipment including but not limited to: UPS systems, Battery systems, PDU’s, ATS, and AC/DC rectifiers.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Be able to recognize when productivity and safety are jeopardized due to duration of efforts or extreme conditions service crew members are being exposed to.
- Exercise good judgement resulting in healthy, harmonious, productive, and happy team performance.
- Show ability to balance multiple needs and challenges from a multitude of directions.
- Work from schematic diagrams, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Follow operational, maintenance and emergency methods of procedure (MOPs)
- Ensure strict adherence to critical facility work rules and safety procedures.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
- Other duties as assigned by Services Management.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Clean driving records a must
- Safe operation of department equipment
- Basic knowledge of electrical/mechanical experience relating to UPS systems, DC systems and knowledge of OEM’s such as: Eaton, Mitsubishi, Schneider, APC, GE, Emerson, etc.)
- Knowledge of or ability to learn basic AC/DC theory, electronic components, and electronic circuitry.
- Show competency in the connections of series, parallel, and series-parallel battery strings.
- Understand torque values, torque-mark application, and visual inspection of completed battery cabinet installations.
- Complete training on: Use of Digital multimeter for AC and DC diagnostic measurements, Use of Amp Clamp and flexible CT in DC and AC measures, Use of Alber Cellcorder for use as a battery testing and maintenance tool for a multitude of various battery designs and chemistries.
- US Citizenship required
Computer Skills
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel.
Certificates and Licenses
- OSHA 30-hour certification
- NFPA-70E Safety Training

- No supervisory responsibilities
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; Standing and walking is required.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- The employee must lift and carry up to 50 – 70 pounds.
- The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.
Pre Employment Requirements
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review, in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Positions requiring driving must have an MVR that meets company and insurance carrier standards.
Pay Range
$35.99 - $53.85 per hour
