About the role

Ashley Hall School seeks an experienced full-time Chemistry teacher to join its upper school science faculty. In addition to teaching their primary subject, Ashley Hall science teachers are asked to offer at least one elective science course and may propose course topics for approval by the Department Chair. The successful candidate must have experience teaching a variety of levels in high school (grades 9-12), including standard and Advanced Placement levels. A strong teaching background in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or training in IB methodology is advantageous.

The ideal candidate will have a love for teaching and working with high school students, placing them at the center of the learning experience. They must possess excellent subject knowledge and the ability to differentiate instruction to support students of various levels. We seek an individual who can make a significant difference in students' lives within the guiding framework of the school’s mission: empowering young women to think critically, act ethically, and embrace their world with confidence.

Ashley Hall serves girls in kindergarten through grade 12 (co-ed in its Early School, ages 2 to 5 years). The school provides a dynamic education grounded in a Reggio approach in its Early School and an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in its Lower School. It is currently in the strategic phase of Middle Years Programme candidacy with the intention of pursuing Diploma Programme candidacy thereafter.

Reports to: Grades 9-12 Division Director • Role Duration: Faculty (10 months, full time)

Responsibilities

• Provide regular feedback to students to guide learning and development
• Proactively communicate with students, parents, and administration about student progress or concerns
• Design course content and materials for core classes and elective courses
• Create and administer lessons and assessments to gauge acquisition of core content competencies
• Provide regular office hours for students to get extra help and individual assistance
• Teach interdisciplinary courses with flexibility and willingness
• Embrace a team-oriented academic environment with an emphasis on student engagement
• Exhibit proficiency and demonstrated experience with subject-relevant technologies that support instruction and student exploration
• Demonstrate exceptional self-management, initiative, and continuous collaboration with department members and administration

Requirements

• Master's degree in Chemistry is preferred
• Minimum of five (5) or more years of teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred
• Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning
• Training in and/or experience with student-centered and experiential instruction
• Proficiency with developmentally-appropriate instructional strategies for upper school-aged children
• Curriculum development knowledge
• Proven record of collaborative teaching
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
