University Registrar
General Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Registrar serves as a strategic leader in advancing the institution’s enrollment management vision and student success priorities. As the institutional steward of academic records, the Registrar builds and leads a modern, student-centered operation that supports recruitment, retention, persistence, and degree completion through data-informed decision-making, process innovation, and cross-functional collaboration. The role is responsible for ensuring compliant, efficient, and technology-enabled registrar services while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, service excellence, and organizational change management across the student lifecycle.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all registrar operations, including registration, records management, grading, transcripts, transfer credit evaluation, degree audit, graduation certification, scheduling, and academic policy administration.
- Envision and sets service standards, operational goals, and performance expectations that support student success and institutional priorities.
- Led, supervise, and develop registrar staff while promoting accountability, responsiveness, professionalism, and high-quality customer service.
- Oversee the academic schedule and catalog in collaboration with academic leadership and campus partners.
- Ensure compliance with FERPA, NCAA regulations, accreditation standards, and university policies related to student records and academic operations.
- Serve as the functional leader for registrar-related technologies and student information systems, including efforts related to automation, process improvement, and modernization.
- Partner with academic departments, advising, admissions, financial aid, and other support offices to improve operational efficiency and reduce barriers to student recruitment, admissions, progression, and degree completion.
- Evaluate and articulate transfer credit. Ensure transfer credit processes are innovative, timely, transparent, student-centered, and supportive of degree completion goals.
- Produce and analyze enrollment, registration, graduation, and student progression data to support institutional decision-making in partnership with the Enrollment Management and Institutional Data teams.
- Manage departmental resources, budgets, reporting, and related administrative functions.
- Ensure data accuracy, reporting integrity, and compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
- Create a culture of accountability, professional growth, and innovation by mentoring staff, supporting training opportunities, and empowering team members to take ownership of operational excellence and student service.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and skills in program planning, administration, budgeting, and operational leadership, typically acquired through completion of a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in academic records and registration within a comprehensive higher education environment, including at least three years in a leadership or administrative capacity.
- Proven experience leading, developing, and managing high-performing teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, including supervision, staff development, change management, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and student-centered service.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student information systems, technology applications, and automated processes related to registration, records management, and academic operation.
- Knowledge of FERPA, higher education compliance standards, and institutional policies related to student records, identity theft prevention, and data security is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading or supporting system implementations, process modernization, or technology conversions.
- Experience with Ellucian Banner and Degree Works or similar enterprise student information systems.
