About the role

The accountant position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Business Operations. It is expected to maintain a professional, courteous, and respectful demeanor in all verbal and written communications. This role is responsible for managing and reconciling financial accounts held at OSU and the OSU Foundation for both the President’s Office and the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Systems Operations Division. The accountant ensures that all financial documentation is processed accurately and complies with OSU policies and state and federal laws, rules, and guidelines. Additionally, this position will provide financial services and advice on status updates to relevant areas and management; work closely with the accounting and budget offices; and manage records, including the retention and retrieval of documents. Furthermore, the accountant attends Fiscal and Administrative Officers meetings to stay informed about policy and procedural updates.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and compliant financial accounts.
  • Process and reconcile financial documentation.
  • Provide financial services and advice to relevant areas and management.
  • Work closely with the accounting and budget offices.
  • Manage records, including retention and retrieval of documents.
  • Attend Fiscal and Administrative Officers meetings.
  • Prepare budget summaries and reconciliations.
  • Oversight purchasing card transaction logs.
  • Provide accounting approval for purchase orders, CVIs, work orders, deposits, and EPAFs.
  • Perform travel request and reimbursement duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field, conferred on or before the agreed upon start date.
  • University Accountant I - 0-6 months related experience.
  • University Accountant II - Two years related experience.

Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge

  • Professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft Office software.
  • Extensive knowledge and proficiency in accounting and budgeting principles.
  • Ability to learn new tools/technology and quickly apply newly developed skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Accounting.
  • Five years experience with OSU Accounting, Purchasing, and Banner, as well as OSU Foundation accounts.
  • CPA certification.

Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge

  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Interact daily with staff and department heads within the division served.

Pay

$50,400 - $69,825

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
