About the role
A Universal Banker provides a full range of banking services to retail customers, including both transactional and non-transactional processes. This role offers customers personalized banking options while assisting in reaching branch goals.
Responsibilities
- Process all banking transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, cashing checks, money orders, gift and bank checks, loan payments, and safe deposit box rentals using Columbia Bank’s online terminals.
- Open new deposit and checking accounts of all kinds and explain these products to customers as required.
- Handle deceased accounts and assist with file maintenance and documentation of daily platform work.
- Assist customers with safe deposit boxes, answer inquiries, and provide explanations of all products and services, including CD renegotiation.
- Discuss personal financial needs with customers and make recommendations on how the Bank can meet those needs.
- Cross-sell Bank’s products and services and interact with other Bank departments as required.
- Serve customers in person or via telephone to resolve inquiries, research and resolve problems, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Explain the features and benefits of online banking.
- Prepare daily proof sheet at the close of business and assist with end-of-day closing procedures, including branch consolidation sheet preparation and document imaging.
- Maintain accurate customer and account records, update safe deposit box records, handle back-office work, and order checks while maintaining branch files.
- Make referrals to Wealth Management, First Jersey Title, Mortgage Origination, and other Bank departments as appropriate.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance preferred.
- 1-2 years of retail or customer service experience required.
- Strong interpersonal, time management, organizational, and PC skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work weekends as needed or scheduled.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Must attend mandatory training; continued employment contingent upon passing training classes.

Orientation, Onboarding & Training
Columbia Bank provides training to help you excel in your position, including a robust Onboarding & Orientation Process. Universal Banker positions require either part-time or full-time training for 10 business days, with schedules based on availability.

Schedule
Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM until closing, working 40 hours per week. Must be available to work alternating Saturdays from 8:30 AM until closing based on business needs.
