About the Role
Availa Bank is seeking a Universal Banker I (Bank Teller) to provide friendly, accurate, and efficient customer service while supporting a broad range of branch banking activities. This role combines teller transactions, customer service, account servicing, banking product support, cash handling, and relationship development. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, detail-oriented, comfortable working with financial transactions, and able to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced branch environment. The position is onsite in Ames, Iowa and is not a remote position.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service through accurate and efficient financial transactions.
- Build customer relationships by identifying needs and recommending appropriate banking products and services.
- Provide accurate information regarding banking products, services, and procedures.
- Communicate professionally with customers and employees in person and by phone.
- Open, maintain, and close consumer accounts, including checking, savings, CDs, and safe deposit boxes.
- Process check orders and follow established check-cashing procedures.
- Issue cashier's checks and process wire transfers.
- Perform online and mobile banking maintenance.
- Process stop payments and debit card disputes.
- Process deposits, withdrawals, advances, loan payments, merchant transactions, and other routine banking transactions.
- Maintain an accurate and balanced cash drawer.
- Perform ATM and ITM duties as applicable.
- Support branch operations and contribute to established branch goals and deposit growth.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell banking products and services.
- Maintain knowledge of current banking products, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Support a positive and professional branch environment.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Strong mathematical and numerical skills.
- Basic keyboarding and computer skills with speed and accuracy.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to understand and follow established banking procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain knowledge of regulatory and compliance policies and procedures.
- Ability to work flexible hours and shifts as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous banking or bank teller experience.
- Accounting experience.
- Sales experience.
- Experience handling financial transactions or cash.
- Familiarity with banking software and branch technology.
- Experience with customer account opening and maintenance.
- Experience with ATM/ITM operations.
- Knowledge of banking products and consumer financial services.
