Universal Banker

Position Summary

The Universal Banker position is a hybrid role combining elements of the Teller and Personal Banker roles. Key responsibilities include managing and growing an assigned customer portfolio, providing customer services, and processing various banking transactions.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Welcome and interview customers to acquire information and define financial needs; recommend and sell retail products and open new accounts.
• Enter new account information into the computer system.
• Travel to various branch locations for staffing support.
• Redeem savings bonds and certificates of deposit.
• Provide customer services such as accepting and processing collection items, telephone account and wire transfers, stop payment requests, and check orders.
• Close accounts, admit customers to safe deposit boxes, prepare and encode counter checks and deposit slips.
• Respond to customer inquiries regarding account information, print account history, and assist customers in balancing statements.
• Research and resolve problems, initiate and follow-up on research requests, and may refund fees when appropriate.
• Provide customers with Debit Cards, Internet Banking, and other product information; participate in business development through cross-selling efforts.
• Participate in and ensure the accuracy and completion of the Branch Quarterly Audit.
• Perform teller duties including cash, check, and deposit transactions, wire transfers, loan payments, and balancing cash drawers.
• Aid in Vault duties as needed.
• Prepare and balance cash drawer daily, process cashier’s checks, debit card requests, adjust limits, and handle exceptions reports.
• Assist with counting money shipments, night-drop, and mail transactions as needed.
• Perform month-end teller audits as needed.
• Provide customers with notary services and other non-bank services.
• Refer customers with non-retail product needs to appropriate providers within the Corporation.
• Maintain relationships with customers by calling assigned accounts.
• Perform administrative support duties such as ordering supplies, sorting and distributing mail, adjusting or setting up machines, typing, filing, etc.
• Review and approve overdrafts for assigned customer portfolio up to authorized limits.
• May open or close branch, main vault, or night deposit vault for the day.
• Comply with applicable laws and regulations, maintain security and confidentiality of information, and continue professional development through training.
• Demonstrate courteous, pleasant, self-motivated, and dependable behavior, maintaining a professional environment in both appearance and conduct.
• Absorb and agree to abide by Susser Bank's policies and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.

Education And Experience Required

• High school or equivalent degree required.
• 2 years of New Account experience preferred with knowledge of all Teller Services.
• Previous cash handling experience.
• Jack Henry experience preferred but not required.

Skills And Abilities Required

• In-depth knowledge of banking concepts and regulations.
• Moderate accounting skills for balancing, reconciling, reporting, and financial analysis.
• In-depth knowledge of all bank products and services, policies, and procedures, including sales incentive programs and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to explain all bank products and services to sell and cross-sell products and respond to customer inquiries.
• Advanced written, oral, interpersonal, and negotiating skills with the ability to recognize and respond to sales opportunities and deliver persuasive presentations.
• Cooperation and patience in dealing with customers.
